23. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest – Tragedy and Comedy
Jack Nicholson, Ken Kesey and Michael Berryman headline this compulsive dark comedy directed by Milos Forman. In this story, a prisoner opts for a mental institution to avoid time in jail and ends up provoking his fellow inmates at the institution to rise against the tyrannical Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher). At the same time, this often dark film explores the nasty side of mental illness, crime, and abuse with an ambiguous ending that is part tragedy and part triumph.
