14. The Warriors (1979 – Walter Hill)
A classic most commonly known to have inspired Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ video, The Warriors portrays an array of colorful gangs all at war in 1970s New York City. The appeal of the movie lies in its innovative casting of unknown actors, which adds to the credibility of the film as the tale of forgotten, undermined, and tormented souls, as opposed to a gala of famous faces. This enables the plot to surpass similar movies of the time, and frequent reunions between the actors have been organized in the past couple of decades.
