The 25 Greatest Cult Classics

6. Easy Rider (1969 – Dennis Hooper)

Easy Rider is a stunning portrayal of the “sex, drugs and rock-n-roll” lifestyle glorified in the 1960s and in songs like ‘Born To Be Wild.’ Stark shots of deserts, the Grand Canyon, and Route 66, cemented the movie’s rebel appeal while Hollywood was promoting glamor and romance. One of the few independent movies to have cast the great Jack Nicholson, this movie was only viewed as a classic after its striking paean to individuality was noted by critics almost a decade later.
