22. Army of Darkness (1992 – Sam Raimi)

This Sam Raimi horror-comedy movie is a 90s kids’ favorite. Building on the surprising success of his Evil Dead franchise, Raimi produced a more comedic twist on the familiar zombie story where his familiar hero Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) is transported back in time to the year 1300. He battles an “army of the living dead” and an evil doppelganger (naturally). While it didn’t have the same groundbreaking, stomach-churning thrills of his original film, the over-the-top plotting, mock-heroic characterization, and frenetic scenes earned it a cult following and a spot on our list.
